BE WARNED / ALERT !!!

Last night at about 6pm a white Opel Astra pulled up into my driveway. My children were playing in the yard and luckily my husband was home at the time. A gentleman got out and said that my house had been picked by the Heart Foundation. They are trying to promote healthy eating and what they do is they come into your home and cook a meal demonstrating "healthy meals" for families. Straight away I was like No thanks but he was quite insistent saying that all we have to do is give the Heart Foundation feedback on what the meals taste like. I said over and over that I was not interested and he wanted to come back later or the next day etc. This was totally suspicious to me. Who in their right mind would let a stranger into their house to cook a meal. There were other gentleman sitting in the backseat - I can't say how many because I just wanted this man to leave. We phoned the Heart Foundation to be told that this is not true. They do not even have offices in the area and they said they would never send members around promoting in that type of manner. We have alerted the police as well.

Please take extra precautions in talking to strangers and do not open your door for anyone.

Oudevlei crimes 28/08/09 – 18/09/09 (3 weeks) Nine crimes have been reported to me for San Marina & Marina Moorings during the last month, this is more than we have had for the previous 6 months. Only 1 happened when MM was on duty, this means that probably 7 of these crimes would not have occurred if MM were on duty during the day

15/09/09 – Tues (mid-morning) Shearwater. A woman with a small dog & trolley entered the property, was seen by a neighbour. The owner & Mountain Men (& Chubb) arrived & caught the woman. SAPS arrived and took her to the police station. The police have several watches & cell phones. She has been seen in the area before – apparently uses the dog as a distraction. Don’t be conned by her.

13 Sept - Sunday (06:30a.m.) Shearwater. Man seen removing back window of car, he ran off when shouted at; owner & 3 off duty guards caught him. Was taken to the police, where he is apparently an "old customer". Described as “young coloured guy, early 20's”
date & time unknown (definitely before 13 Sept) Shearwater Bicycle stolen from garage. No sign of forced entry – likely that the thief came onto the property while the residents were home & stole it.

2/9/09 – Wed (11:30 a.m.) Pelican – house break-in, window smashed in, laptop taken.

31/08/09 - Mon (~4:00a.m.) Shearwater - telkom junction box stolen – leaving several residents without phones (AND therefore without alarm monitoring if communication with their security service provider is via landline)

prob Week of Mon 24/8/09 – Fri 28/8/09 Pelican Dr – house break-in during the day – no details provided

In Marina Moorings 2 very worrying crimes have occurred:
04/09/09 - Friday (9:30a.m.) - * Springer woman attacked in the street about 9:30 am, jewellery and handbag contents were stolen; woman was pistol whipped on her head while still lying on the ground.
30/08/09 - Sunday (04:40a.m.) * Red Roman Burglar climber in through a 2nd storey window into a bedroom while the residents were sleeping.
28/08/09 - Friday (19h00 - 20h00) * Leervis old model Toyota Corolla stolen from road; no windows broken, probably used another key.

National & local security trends “House robberies have increased by more than 25% over the last year” – Police Minister, Nathi Mthethwa.
The economic situation is expected to continue to increase crime rates. Neighbourhood watches have been shown to reduce crime – Kirstenhof (excellent NW network) reports decreases of 9% (burglaries) and 17% (of vehicles, and out of vehicles) for the last year. We need to get our Neighbourhood watch up and running again

Sunday 8th February 2009

On the above mentioned date and time our team in the area heard dogs barking from the vicinity of Shearwater.

On further inspection they noticed a slim coloured male attempting to force open the lock of the garage door.

The Officers moved in and apprehended the suspect.

Suspect was then searched and a screwdriver, 3 sets of keys for a old Toyota box shape was found in his possession, which were hidden in his socks.
The suspect was also wearing a pair of woolen gloves. Suspect was taken to Muizenberg SAPS were a case of attemted break-in was opened.

Suspect is known as:

ﬠ   Marawaan Silyeur
ﬠ   26yrs of age
ﬠ   8 Bothma Street, Steenberg

Friday 30th January 2009

At 02h00 on Friday morning our Officers Bassier & Brian noticed a suspicious coloured male walking down Oudevlei towards Baalen Rd.

Our team kept their distance, concealing themselves behind bushes etc to see what this person was up to.

The team noticed that the suspicious male went onto the property of No.* Baalen Walk. Our team continued to monitor the suspects movements  and witnessed him lifting up a trailer door and began scratching around inside to see what he could take.

Our team moved in and apprehend the suspect on the premises of No.* Baalen Rd.

The problem that we were faced with is that our officers could not get hold of the owners as there was no-one home, nor could we reach key holders etc, as they were non clients of ours.

We then notified Chubb of the incident, as they were the service providers for this premises, to see if they could get hold of anyone.

Muizenberg SAPS was asked to attend and took the suspect to the station.

I am not sure as to what the outcome was and will provide more info as soon as I can.

Thursday 29th January 2009

At 03h30 on Thursday morning our Officers Bassier & Brian noticed a suspicious coloured male on a BMX bicycle heading towards our MM Hut in Eastlake Drive.

Our team decided to hide in a nearby bush and watch the suspects movements. After a short while they noticed that the male walked up to the Hut and look inside to see where our team was.

At this stage our team moved in and apprehended the suspect. The suspect was searched and a metal pipe and screwdriver was found in his possession, which was confiscated.

Our armed response vehicle was called in and the suspect was taken to Muizenberg SAPS to determine whether or not the he had previous offenses etc.

Muizenberg SAPS confirmed that the person was not wanted, nor did he have any prior convictions. It was also determined that the suspect resides in Capricorn.

Our team is aware of this person now and will continue to monitor the area for his return.

Thursday 20th Jan 2009

Whilst conducting extra patrols in the San Marina on 20th January 2009, my colleague (Zayne) and I heard dogs barking in the vicinity of the Baalen Walk.

We decided to investigate the matter and on doing so we noticed three males walking down Baalen Walk and approached them.

I then realized after speaking to the gentlemen that it was Sydney and his colleagues from the NHW.

They informed us that Chubb had just apprehended 2 coloured males attempting to break-in at No.* Baalen Walk.

On further investigation we spoke to the owner of the property who explained that he was sleeping and heard strange noises which at the time, he thought was coming from his roof.
He then decided to investigate the matter and noticed two coloured males fitting the same description as the ones that were apprehended removing his wooden frames of his lounge windows.

The owner then screamed at the two males who then fled. It was at this stage that Chubb was phoned by the owner and both suspects were apprehended whilst walking down Baalen towards Prince George Drive.

The older male (bleached hair) is a known criminal to us and was locked up previously for house breaking. We also found that the suspects climbed up a tree to gain access into the property. Both suspects gained access into Baalen Walk by jumping over the wall on Prince George Drive

Wednesday 14 January 2009

On 14 January 2009 at 03h04, the Protection Officers in the area requested back-up as they spotted 2 suspects on the waterside and were chasing them in Carp Close.

On arrival we were briefed as to what had happened and we began to search the premises were the suspects were last seen.

Whilst doing so our team activated the alarm systems of the premises (beams) and as a result of this ADT, Chubb & SAPS responded to the area.

Unfortunately the search ended at 05h10 as the suspects could not be found.

What was learnt from the incident is that the suspects entered the area via by climbing over the wall on the field side. They used the cracks in the wall to pull themselves up & jump over.

We also know that they are young coloured males age between – 16-18 yrs of age. They were armed with a bat and knew the area well.

We suspect that these guys are more than likely the ones responsible for the crimes committed in the past.

Monday 2nd January 2009

On 2nd January 2009 at 04h20 our team in the area spotted a coloured male walking from Shearwater in the direction of Oudevlei.
The Officers observed him from a distance and after a short wait, detained the suspect on the corners of Oudevlei & Shearwater.

The suspect was searched and a large knife was found in his possession. The suspect who was now known, ( Jerome Joseph, 20 years of age, Capricorn), was taken to Muizenberg SAPS to determine whether or not he had a record etc.

This turned out to be negative and the suspect was released
